Q’s Reviews – April 19, 2021

Van Gogh Immersive Experience.  Currently showing at the SVN West (Formerly Fillmore West) at the corner of South Van Ness and Market Street in San Francisco through September 6, 2021.  The works of Vincent Van Gogh are artfully projected on the four walls and ceiling of a very large room.  With accompanying music, the art appears to come alive.  Starry Starry Night morphs into fields of sunflowers while vines grow and mature.  Well known portraits float by and become part of the country scenes.  The experience has high aspirations but does not quite deliver an awe-inspiring event.  We have been fortunate enough to explore original Van Goghs in museums in Arles, Paris and Amsterdam, which we highly recommend.  The Experience is pricey ($50 and up) and lasts but 35 minutes.  There are some benches available to sit, but most folks are sitting on the floor in safely distanced circles.  Tickets are time sensitive to keep the flow of people moving through the venue.  If you decide to go, be sure you plan where to park – it is a hassle in that area.  Go to https://www.vangoghsf.com/ for information.

Nobody.  This is bloody and terrific revenge film.  Bob Odenkirk is Hutch Mansell, a weary auditor who just makes do and blends in.  One night two burglars break into his suburban home.  Hutch appears to get the best of the perps, but slinks away when his wife and teenage son appear to be in danger.  The burglars flee and his family is disappointed in him for not dispatching the bad guys when he had the upper hand.  But we sense there is another side to Hutch about to come out.  A young girl is being harassed on a bus by a bunch of hooligans and Hutch sees this and seethes before he erupts in anger using lethal skills to send the rowdies to the hospital.  The ruffians were Russian Mob connected and now the Mob is after Hutch and his family.  He leaves a trail of battered mobsters and cars.  When Hutch destroys the mob’s livelihood, they set out in full force to teach him a lesson.  Hutch has many secrets and hidden allies who come to his aid.  The mob henchmen and leaders are obliterated in a fury of bullets and blood.  The film is fast paced and fun to watch as you are kept guessing what special skill will he use next and where did he learn it?  Hutch is clearly not a nobody.  Rated R for strong violence and bloody images, language throughout and brief drug use.  Available on Amazon Prime Video and in theatres.
